L 55.1. Description. Policy on deductions and collections is found in the DoD 7000.14-R, Volume 7A, chapters 44 through 54. 55.2. Definitions: 55.2.1. Deductions. A deduction is any subtraction or exclusion from gross pay due a member. Included are those required by laws, regulations or legal decisions, such as Federal and State income tax, child support, social security and Medicare and Armed Forces Retirement Home; those for benefits specifically authorized by law, such as Servicemembers Group Life Insurance; and voluntary allotments to designated payees.
